Cleaning and Overhaul

Even organs that receive regular tuning and routine maintenance can, over time, accumulate dust, debris and deteriorated materials within the pipework, actions and wind system. This gradual build-up can impair speech, affect tuning stability and reduce overall reliability, leading to uneven tone or less dependable mechanisms.

A comprehensive internal cleaning and overhaul allows these issues to be addressed before they develop into more serious faults. Work typically includes the careful removal and cleaning of pipework, attention to actions and wind systems, and the inspection of components that may have reached the end of their effective service life.

As a general guide, we recommend that organs receive a full internal clean approximately every 20–25 years, although instruments located in poor or challenging environments—such as those affected by dust, damp, fluctuating temperatures or building works—may require attention at shorter intervals.

Each instrument is assessed on its own merits. Following an inspection, we can advise whether a partial clean, targeted overhaul or a more comprehensive programme of work would be most appropriate, always with careful regard to the instrument’s condition, history and use.

Based in Worcestershire, Daly Organs Ltd undertakes cleaning and overhaul projects across the UK and Wales, including regular work throughout Kent, London and the wider South East.
