Protective Coverings

Building and repair work within churches can present a significant risk to pipe organs and their associated mechanisms. Dust, debris and airborne contaminants generated during works can quickly penetrate an organ, affecting pipework, actions, wind systems and electrical components.

We strongly recommend that organs are fully protected whenever building or maintenance work is taking place in their vicinity. Pipe organs contain many delicate and finely balanced components, and even short-term exposure to dust and dirt can lead to long-term reliability issues and increased maintenance requirements.

Daly Organs Ltd can provide practical advice to PCCs, architects and contractors at the planning stage, helping ensure that appropriate protective measures are put in place before work begins. We also offer a professional covering service, carefully wrapping the organ and console using suitable protective materials to minimise the risk of contamination while allowing the building project to proceed.

Once building works are complete, we can return to remove the coverings, inspect the instrument and carry out any necessary cleaning and retuning, ensuring the organ is safely brought back into use.

Our aim is to protect the long-term condition and reliability of each instrument, avoiding unnecessary damage and disruption caused by building activity.
